History

The church began in 1890 when Rev. Eva E. Cusick moved to Sault. Ste. Marie and begain door to door visitation.  Miss Cusick was the first  Free Methodist minister to work in the Upper Peninsula.  The first "class" was organized on April 1, 1891.  The class was formally organized into an official "society" on January 19, 1892 in the home of John Pringle.

For several years the church met in a building later known as "the Mission House" on Kimball Street.  In 1895, the church moved to 329 Court Street.  This was the church home until 1920, when the society was moved to the corner of Ann Street and Court Street.  In 1968 the society moved to its present location at 505 West 4th Avenue (east of the water tower).  Construction of the current building begain on April 26, 1970 and the church was dedicated June 6, 1971.  An education wing was added in 1990.
